Carrot Parmex

Root Physiology and Geometry

The «Parmex» carrot from the Dutch breeding company Bejo is a classic representative of the «Paris Market» type. The primary engineering goal achieved by Bejo breeders when developing this hybrid was to adapt the spherical shape to industrial processing cycles. With a root weight of 25–50 grams and a length of only 5–10 cm, the crop forms a dense, uniform structure resistant to mechanical stress during harvest.

Cultivation Parameters

• Seeding Density: The recommended range is 8.0–10.0 million seeds/ha. This high density is crucial for controlling root size: under competition for space, the carrots do not overgrow, maintaining their characteristic round shape.
• Maturity: A growing period of 80–90 days allows for efficient crop rotation planning.

Industrial Application

The technical specifications of «Parmex» make it a highly specialized tool for the processing and washing sector. Due to the lack of an elongated taproot, the crop passes easily through grading machinery. The deep red flesh ensures high visual quality for the finished product after thermal processing or canning. The absence of a long tip minimizes waste during automated peeling processes, positioning this hybrid as a cost-effective choice for manufacturers focused on baby carrots and frozen vegetable mixes.
