A Breeding Foundation for Forage Production

The smooth brome variety "Borozenkyi 7" is the result of long-term research by breeders at the Institute of Climate-Oriented Agriculture of the NAAS of Ukraine. Registered in the State Register of Plant Varieties in 2009, this octoploid variety has established itself as a reliable component for creating durable hay and pasture lands. Its development addressed the agricultural sector's need for a crop capable of adapting to the diverse conditions of the Steppe, Forest-Steppe, and Polissia zones.

Morphological Traits and Adaptability

The biological potential of "Borozenkyi 7" is expressed through its erect growth habit and balanced vegetative mass development. As a mid-season variety, it shows moderate heading dynamics, allowing for efficient planning of mowing cycles. Key plant characteristics include:

• Moderate anthocyanin coloration of the leaf sheath and inflorescence glumes.
• Long stems with an optimal upper internode length, ensuring high green mass yields.
• Strong regrowth capacity after mowing, which is critical for pasture utilization.

Due to its plasticity, the variety is successfully zoned throughout Ukraine. It demonstrates stable productivity both in natural meadows and as part of artificial grass mixtures, providing livestock with high-quality forage even under changing climatic conditions.
