Blueberry cultivar "Mega Blue" is an American mid-season variety ripening in August. The plant is vigorous, semi-spreading, reaching a height of about 1.5 meters and a width of 1.1 meters. Berries of this variety range from medium to large, have a dark color without red tones, dense and crisp texture, ensuring good storage after harvest. The flesh of the berries is juicy and firm, and during flowering, the bushes are adorned with decorative pink flowers. The yield of this variety can reach 20-25 tons per hectare, making it attractive for commercial cultivation.
For successful cultivation of "Mega Blue" blueberries, proper planting conditions must be provided. The plant prefers loose, well-drained, moisture-retentive soil with constant high humidity, but without waterlogging. The optimal planting location is an open, sunny site. It is recommended to prepare a planting hole up to 50 cm deep and about 100 cm in diameter, considering that the root system of an adult bush is located at a depth of 30-40 cm and spreads well in width. The distance between saplings in a row should be 80-150 cm, and between rows — about 200 cm.
Special attention should be paid to drainage, especially on heavy clay soils, where a 7-10 cm layer of coarse bark, sand, or other materials should be laid at the bottom of the hole. It is recommended to isolate the walls of the planting hole from the surrounding soil using plastic, geotextile, or agrofiber, leaving the bottom free for unimpeded water drainage. Such measures prevent waterlogging around the roots, which is critical for the health and productivity of blueberries.
