Description

Belarusian peas are a mid-season variety that reaches a height of 70 to 100 cm and typically forms six to ten pods per plant. Each pod is straight, 9–12 cm long and about 2 cm wide, containing three to five large flat seeds. The seeds are light pale (light green at early stages) and turn brown over time, slightly splitting when fully mature.

The variety is characterized by high nutritional value: the caloric content of the seeds exceeds that of potatoes threefold, while the protein and sugar content make the peas especially valuable for nutrition. The peas are fleshy, tender, and juicy, which allows them to be used both in cooking and canning – during canning and freezing, seeds are used at the milk maturity stage.

Care for the plant is simple: sowing is done in open ground at the end of April–beginning of May, at a depth of 5 cm, with a row spacing of 20×60 cm. Peas prefer moist, peaty-boggy and heavy clay soils. The time from germination to seed maturity is 90–110 days, and the yield reaches 0.4–0.5 kg/m². To ensure a prolonged supply of harvest, it is recommended to sow in several stages.
