Bean Lika

Lica vegetable beans are a mid-season bush plant with a height of 35-40 cm. Pods are straight, green, 16-17 cm long and about 1 cm wide, with a round cross-section, without a parchment layer or fibers. The attachment height of the lower pods is 16-20 cm. Seeds are elliptical in shape, ochre in color with weak vein patterns, with a 1000-seed mass reaching 290-300 g. The variety is characterized by high commercial pod yield of up to 1.9 kg per square meter and seed yield of 2.6-3.2 tons/hectare. Lica boasts excellent taste qualities, making it in demand for culinary use. Green bean pods are juicy and sugary, used to prepare soups, sides, vegetable stews, and salads, as well as for canning and freezing. Mature pods are a valuable source of protein, while green pods are rich in vitamins B1, B2, and provitamin A, enhancing their nutritional value. The variety is distinguished by high resistance to adverse conditions, such as drought, over-wetting, and low positive temperatures. Moreover, Lica is resistant to diseases, including anthracnose and bacterial infection. Sowing in open ground is recommended at the end of May – beginning of June at a depth of 2-3 cm with row spacing of 40 x 15 cm. Care of the crop requires loosening, weeding, watering, and 2-3 mineral fertilizer applications, and, if necessary, the use of plant protection agents against pests and diseases.
