Basil Amigo

Compact Basil 'Amigo': A Standard for Home and Commercial Growing

The 'Amigo' basil variety, developed by the Russian breeding company 'Euro-Semena', is a selective product aimed at those who value the balance between plant aesthetics and culinary qualities. The breeders, Yuri Dmitrievich Tarasov and the 'Euro-Semena' team, focused on creating a versatile basil suitable for both urban apartment windowsills and large-scale commercial greenhouses.

Variety Characteristics and Agrotechnics

'Amigo' stands out among competitors due to its compact form and small-leaf structure. The green leaves of this basil possess high density, making it convenient for retail packaging in commercial production. The taste profile of the variety is defined by a rich, intense aroma that persists even after the fresh greens are harvested and stored.

• Plant type: Small-leaf variety.
• Light requirement: Highly demanding of intense, direct sunlight.
• Target audience: Microgreen enthusiasts, farm enterprises, and herb producers.

Given the specific breeding focus of Yuri Tarasov, 'Amigo' demonstrates stable germination rates and predictable growth, which are critical factors for commercial production. Unlike large-leaf varieties, 'Amigo' does not require complex pruning to maintain a neat bush shape, which significantly simplifies maintenance in protected ground.

Why Choose 'Amigo'?

In the herb market, 'Amigo' has occupied the niche of the "convenient basil." Its small leaves ensure a professional and aesthetic appearance in packaging, while its intense flavor profile allows for more economical culinary use. For the home grower, this variety has become a favorite due to its ease of care—given enough light, the plant develops a dense canopy, perfect for regular harvesting.
