Barley Yucatan

A Breeding Breakthrough from Mironovka

The «Yucatan» barley variety is a versatile cultivar developed by the V.M. Remeslo Mironovsky Institute of Wheat (NAAS). The core feature of this model is its high plasticity, allowing for both winter and spring cultivation. This makes Yucatan a reliable asset for agronomists aiming to minimize risks during crop rotation planning.

Biological Potential and Agronomy

The plant features a compact structure with a height of 70–80 cm, ensuring excellent lodging resistance even under intensive fertilization regimes. The two-row ear is an indicator of high grain quality, which is highly sought after in the fodder and food industries.

With a vegetation period of 80–90 days, the variety is classified as mid-early, allowing Yucatan to efficiently utilize winter and spring moisture before the onset of peak summer heat.

Phytosanitary Reliability

A key advantage of this variety is its genetically inherent tolerance to foliar diseases. Field trials confirm high resistance to the following pathogens:

• Helminthosporiosis;
• Mycosphaerella leaf spot;
• Powdery mildew;
• Brown spot.

Comprehensive resistance to leaf spots significantly reduces the need for fungicide applications, thereby optimizing production costs. Yucatan represents a choice for those who value time-tested NAAS breeding adapted to the climatic realities of Ukraine.
