Barley Adagio

French Breeding for High Yields

The spring barley variety "Adagio" is a hallmark product of the French breeding company Secobra Recherches S.A.S. This variety occupies a distinct niche among high-yielding two-row barleys, catering to professional farmers who prioritize both crop stability and commercial grain quality. In intensive farming systems, Adagio showcases excellent potential due to its optimized genetic profile.

Agronomic Profile and Morphology

The key advantage of this variety is the balance between vegetative mass and final yield. The plants reach a moderate height (70 to 100 cm), which ensures excellent resistance to lodging, even under high-fertilizer input protocols. The two-row ear combined with a high 1,000-kernel weight (48–52 grams) produces well-filled, plump grain with an 11% protein/nitrogen content, meeting the requirements for both malting and fodder markets.

Disease Resistance and Protection

A primary factor behind the success of "Adagio" in the market is its high tolerance to common cereal pathogens. The variety effectively withstands threats such as:

• Helminthosporium
• Powdery mildew
• Stem smut

Furthermore, its genetic resistance to covered smut significantly reduces the need for early-stage chemical fungicide applications. Secobra Recherches S.A.S has developed a product capable of maintaining high productivity even under challenging phytosanitary conditions, providing agronomists with a reliable tool for field management.

Economic Impact

Choosing "Adagio" is an investment in agricultural predictability. Thanks to its robust 1,000-kernel weight, farmers achieve a higher yield of marketable grain per hectare. Consistent grain quality, achieved through standard cultivation practices, makes this variety highly sought after by farms focused on export and industrial processing.
