Description Adagio
Adagio — early-maturing spring barley, developed by the Selection and Genetics Institute of the National Center for Seed Science and Variety Study of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine. This variety is intended for cultivation in the steppe zone and is characterized by high drought and heat resistance, making it especially valuable for regions with unfavorable climatic conditions. The vegetation period is 65–70 days, enabling harvest within a short time. Plants have a height of 70–100 cm, erect habit, and medium-length, dense two-rowed ears. The grain is light-yellow in color, elongated-oval in shape, with a 1000-grain weight ranging from 47 to 63 grams. The Adagio variety demonstrates high yield — 70–75 c/ha, with a potential yield of up to 7.0–7.5 t/ha. It exhibits high resistance to diseases, including black smut, rust, powdery mildew, and helminthosporium, as well as lodging and stem breakage, ensuring grain preservation and quality. Protein content in the grain is approximately 11%, making it valuable for both feed and food purposes. Yellowish-brown stems and glabrous leaves complete the morphological description of the variety. Adagio is a reliable choice for farmers aiming to achieve stable and high-quality barley harvests in the steppe zone. Thanks to its resistance to adverse factors and high agronomic performance, this variety supports efficient farming practices and increases the economic return from barley crops.
