Barley Alegro

Breeding Excellence for Ukrainian Soil

The «Allegro» barley variety is a flagship product developed by the V. Ya. Yuriev Plant Production Institute of the NAAS. This variety has secured a strong position in the Ukrainian agricultural sector due to its remarkable plasticity and high adaptability to diverse climatic zones. It is designed for farmers who prioritize yield stability and consistent performance across varying weather cycles.

Key Agronomic Features

Classified as a two-row barley, «Allegro» is highly valued for its uniform and high-quality grain. A key performance indicator is the 1000-seed weight, which ranges between 46 and 48 grams. The plant's morphology is engineered for efficiency: it reaches a height of 60–70 cm, creating a compact canopy that effectively resists lodging even under heavy rainfall conditions, ensuring easier and more efficient harvesting.

Disease Resistance Profile

A major advantage of «Allegro» is its robust genetic resistance to common fungal pathogens, significantly lowering the economic threshold for fungicide applications. The variety demonstrates strong immunity against:

• Covered smut;
• Loose smut.

Furthermore, it shows significant tolerance to helminthosporiosis, stem smut, and powdery mildew. This phytosanitary resilience helps protect the crop's yield potential, even under conditions of high disease pressure.

Market Application

«Allegro» stands out for its versatility as a dual-purpose variety, suitable for both winter and spring cultivation. This flexibility allows agronomists to optimize crop rotation plans and mitigate risks associated with unpredictable weather patterns, making it a reliable staple for modern, performance-driven farms.
