Sion

Wheat variety Sion is a prominent representative of the selection of the Institute of Feed and Agriculture of Podillya NAAN and was included in the State Register of Plant Varieties Suitable for Distribution in Ukraine since 2022. This variety is distinguished by high yield, which, according to test results, reached 5.02 t/ha, exceeding standard indicators by 21.54%. Due to its characteristics, Sion is recommended for cultivation in all agroclimatic zones of Ukraine, including Steppes, Forest-Steppe, and Polissia.

Sion variety possesses a complex of economically valuable traits, such as resistance to lodging, shattering, and drought, as well as resistance to main wheat diseases, including brown rust, powdery mildew, and helminthosporiosis. These qualities make it a reliable choice for farmers aiming to achieve a stable and high yield.

For successful cultivation of wheat variety Sion, it is recommended to follow agronomic practices: predecessors may include sugar beet, maize for grain and silage, potato. Soil preparation includes harrowing and pre-sowing cultivation. Sowing rate is 3.0–4.5 million germinating seeds per hectare, with seeding depth of 3–4 cm on heavy soils and 5–6 cm on light soils. It is recommended to apply fertilizers at rates N40P40K40 and use the standard row planting method.
