Description Salome
SALOME — a mid-early spring barley variety (Hordeum vulgare L.) intended for cultivation in northern regions, such as the Northwestern and Ural regions. This brewing variety is distinguished by a high yield potential, which can reach up to 79.5 c/ha, and in some cases up to 80 c/ha. The plant is characterized by low height and a short stem, which contributes to good lodging resistance. The variety exhibits high ecological plasticity, allowing for successful cultivation in various climatic conditions.

SALOME is distinguished by high resistance to powdery mildew, moderate resistance to loose smut and net form net blotch, as well as resistance to cereal nematode. The barley head is two-rowed, with a high grain count and high thousand-grain weight. The grain purity is high, and the raw protein content exceeds average levels, making this variety particularly valuable for the brewing industry. The lower leaves are hairless, and the awns have colored tips, which is a characteristic feature of the variety.

To achieve maximum yield, a sowing rate of 3.5-4 million viable seeds per hectare is recommended. The variety responds well to nitrogen fertilization, therefore it is advisable to apply ammonium nitrate in the amount of 150-200 kg per hectare before sowing. When forming the second node, it is recommended to apply the growth regulator Cerion for optimal plant development. SALOME is successfully used in industrial sowings and has proven itself as a reliable and high-yielding barley variety for brewing.
