Description KWS ORFELIA
KWS ORFELIA is a high-yielding spring barley variety intended for brewing production. It is characterized by the stability of brewing qualities that meet the requirements of light malt types. The variety is medium-ripening and low-growing, with plant height ranging from 51 to 62 cm and a vegetation period of 72-85 days. The mass of 1000 grains varies from 41 to 53 grams, and the grain is distinguished by its large size and natural structure, which facilitates the production of high-quality malt. The protein content in the grain is 10-11%, which ensures high extractivity and low malt viscosity, as well as a high final degree of fermentation, which is important for brewing. KWS ORFELIA demonstrates high ecological plasticity and resistance to various soil conditions, allowing for successful cultivation in various regions, including the Moscow, Smolensk, and Tambov regions, as well as regions 3 and 5. The variety has very high intensity and tillering potential, which contributes to high yields—the yield potential reaches 125 centners/hectare, and the maximum yield according to GSI is 110.4 centners/hectare. The recommended sowing rate is 4-5 million seeds per hectare, at a sowing depth of 3-5 cm and at the optimal sowing time. Despite the high yield, the variety has resistance to lodging, which facilitates harvesting and reduces crop losses. Over the years of cultivation, KWS ORFELIA has repeatedly become a leader in internal trials of brewing companies due to its qualities and stability. In 2016, it was a finalist of the Beijing program on the development of production and export of brewing barley in the Siberian Federal District. Seed germination energy is very high, which ensures good germination and plant development. The variety has medium susceptibility to blotched spot, which requires attention when protecting crops. Overall, KWS ORFELIA is a reliable choice for brewing barley producers, ensuring high raw material quality and a stable yield.
