POVOLZHIY 16

POVOLZHIY 16 is a medium-maturing spring barley variety intended for grain and fodder use. It features a vegetative period ranging from 66 to 78 days, allowing it to mature simultaneously with the Berkut variety and slightly earlier than other popular varieties. The mass of 1000 grains varies within 42-50 grams, with protein content reaching 11.8-15.9%, ensuring high grain quality. The variety belongs to the submedicuum type and demonstrates moderate susceptibility to loose smut, enhancing its disease resistance.

The variety was created as a result of breeding work initiated in 2002 in the Samara region using intraspecific hybridization. During multi-year tests conducted from 2014 to 2020, POVOLZHIY 16 showed high and stable yields exceeding those of standard varieties. The average yield in the test region was approximately 28.4 c/ha, while the maximum recorded yield reached 3.82 t/ha. The plants possess a medium height of about 50.7 cm, increased productive tillering, and greater resistance to lodging compared to benchmark varieties.

Particular attention was given to adapting the variety to conditions of the Middle Volga region, including high drought resistance and resistance to biotic stresses such as loose smut and stem rust, which were not observed during tests. Thanks to these qualities, POVOLZHIY 16 is a promising choice for cultivation in regions with similar climates, ensuring a stable economic effect and high profitability of agricultural production.
