Barley of the OLENEK variety is a medium-early grain fodder spring barley intended for cultivation in the conditions of the Central Strip and the Middle Volga region. The plant is medium-height, with a semi-erect bush and resistance to lodging. The vegetation period ranges from 66 to 85 days, allowing for harvest within optimal timeframes. The mass of 1000 grains varies from 42 to 58 grams; the grain is large, with an un-hairy abdominal groove and embracing lodicules. The ear is cylindrical, medium-loose, with long smooth awns, the tips of which have weak or medium anthocyanin coloration and serration. The plant exhibits medium anthocyanin coloration on the flag leaf ears and medium to strong wax coating on sheaths of lower leaves and the ear. The variety is distinguished by drought tolerance and high yield: average yield in regional conditions is about 39.7 centners per hectare, with a maximum of 61.2 centners. Protein content in the grain reaches 14%, making it valuable for fodder purposes. However, the variety is highly susceptible to powdery mildew, which requires attention during agrotechnical activities and plant protection. Due to its characteristics, barley OLENEK is recommended for cultivation in the Penza and Samara regions. Additionally, barley is an important agricultural crop, widely used as a fodder culture and raw material for the food industry. It is used to prepare various products, including porridges and beverages, and serves as food for animals. Barley adapts well to various soil and climatic conditions, making it universal and in high demand in the agricultural sector.
