Description
The Margret spring barley variety is a medium-maturing and low-growing malting barley developed by German breeders of SAATEN UNION. The vegetation period ranges from 75 to 93 days, allowing efficient use in various climatic conditions. The plant features a semi-sprawling bush and lodging resistance, which helps preserve the yield and facilitates harvesting.
Margret is distinguished by high resistance to crown rust, moderate resistance to solid head smut and rhynchosporium, as well as weak resistance to powdery mildew and susceptibility to dusty smut. For seed protection, treatment against smut diseases and fungicide application before the emergence of the ear is recommended. The mass of 1000 grains varies from 41 to 53 grams, with protein content reaching 11.4%, making this variety attractive for the brewing industry.
The Margret variety boasts high yield, with average figures around 36.3 centners per hectare, and maximum values up to 95 centners per hectare. It is ecologically plastic, drought-resistant, and suitable for cultivation in various regions, including Central, Central-Black Earth, and Ural. The sowing rate is 330–400 pieces per square meter. Due to its characteristics, Margret barley is widely used for both brewing and forage purposes.
