BERKUT is a medium-early variety of spring barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) of the submedicum type, intended for grain and fodder use. The plant is medium-sized with a semi-erect bush, characterized by a cylindrical loose head with a medium waxy coating and long awns with anthocyanin-colored tips. The mass of 1000 grains ranges from 42 to 49 grams; the grain is large with an un-awned abdominal furrow. Protein content in the grain varies from 10.9 to 12.7%, ensuring high quality of fodder raw materials.

The variety is recommended for cultivation in the Central and Southern zones of the Samara region and is included in the State Register for the Middle Volga region. The vegetation period is 72-84 days, corresponding to the medium-early group. Yield is at the level of standard regional varieties, with maximum indicators up to 57.8 c/ha. BERKUT possesses drought resistance at the level of or above standards, however, it shows strong susceptibility to loose smut and septoria, as well as susceptibility to helminthosporiosis, which requires attention during crop protection.

For the protection of barley BERKUT from diseases, the use of systemic fungicides, such as a preparation with the active substance tebuconazole, is recommended. It effectively prevents the development of fungal diseases, increases plant winter hardiness, and contributes to crop preservation. Fungicide application is carried out at a rate of 0.5-1.0 l/ha, ensuring reliable crop protection and improved productivity.
