MOSCOW 2

MOSCOW 2 is a mid-maturing variety of spring barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) with a naked grain type, characterized by high resistance to powdery mildew and net form of barley leaf spot. It features good yield comparable to floury varieties and high protein content in the grain, reaching 16.3%. The variety is recommended for cultivation in the Central, Volga-Vyatka, Central Black Earth, and Middle Volga regions, demonstrating its adaptability to various climatic conditions.

The plant is medium-sized with an intermediate bush type; the spike has a shape from pyramidal to cylindrical, 8-10 cm long, and medium density. The spike position on the stem is semi-erect. The variety is characterized by rapid growth in the seedling phase and high resistance to drought, soil acidity, and grain sprouting on the root. Additionally, it is relatively resistant to various diseases, including powdery mildew, net blotch, root rots, and rhynchosporium, and possesses high resistance to lodging.

MOSCOW 2 is versatile in use, combining high brewing and forage qualities of the grain. The grain is large, uniform, with a white aleurone layer color, has high extractability and protein content from 9.6 to 16.3%. The vegetation period of the variety is about 78-90 days, allowing it to successfully fill the grain and avoid unfavorable conditions of hot and dry weather. To increase productivity and crop quality, the application of complex agro-technical measures is recommended, including optimal seeding rates, fertilizer application, and timely crop care.
