Description BIOM
Barley of the variety BIOM RS-1 is a medium-height, mid-early spring barley intended for grain and grain-forage use. The plants are erect with loose cylindrical ears covered with a weak waxy bloom. The awns have serrated edges and show distinct anthocyanin pigmentation at the tips, and are longer than the ear. The grain is very large, with the mass of 1000 seeds varying from 46 to 55 grams, indicating high grain quality. The vegetative period ranges from 68 to 82 days, allowing the variety to mature 3-5 days earlier than some other varieties, such as Odesky-100. The variety has moderate resistance to powdery scab, but exhibits high susceptibility to root rot and helminthosporiosis, requiring special attention when selecting agrotechnical measures. Lodging resistance of BIOM is at or slightly above the level of standard varieties. Drought resistance is average, lagging behind some other varieties by no more than one point in years when the trait is expressed. Protein content in the grain ranges from 11.9 to 15.2%, making it attractive for feed and grain use. The BIOM variety is recommended for cultivation in the forest-steppe and subtaiga zones of Western and Eastern Siberia, specifically in the Kemerovo region, and is also suitable for the West Siberian and East Siberian regions. The average yield in these regions is about 21.8 centners per hectare, with a maximum yield of up to 57.9 centners per hectare. Due to its characteristics and adaptation to climatic conditions, BIOM is a reliable choice for agricultural producers focused on obtaining high-quality grain and feed products.
