ZHNATNY

The ZHNATNY spring barley variety is a mid-maturing nudans type with a vegetation period ranging from 79 to 90 days. The plant is medium-height, lodging-resistant, and has a semi-compact bush type. The ear is of medium length, cylindrical, and of medium density, featuring long barbed awns and moderate anthocyanin pigmentation. The grain is large, with a 1000-grain weight ranging from 41 to 54 grams, an un-haired ventral keel, and caryopses enclosed by lodicules. The variety is characterized by average yield of approximately 30.2 c/ha, exceeding the regional standard, and a maximum yield of up to 57.1 c/ha. Protein content reaches 11%, ensuring high grain quality.

ZHNATNY exhibits high resistance to major barley diseases, including stem rust, loose smut, powdery mildew, and root rots. The sheaths of lower leaves are un-haired, while the waxy bloom on sheaths and ears varies from medium to strong, providing plant protection. Medium-intensity anthocyanin pigmentation on the flag leaf auricles and awn tips gives the variety distinctive traits, while the sterile spikelet is positioned in a drooping manner. These features make the variety adapted for cultivation in the Central region of Russia, including the Bryansk, Ivanovo, Kaluga, and Ryazan regions.

The ZHNATNY variety is intended for grain and fodder use and is suitable for livestock feed bases. Due to its high protein content and large grain size, it provides high-quality raw materials.
