Barley Monomakh

Stable spring barley yields: breeding by KhNAU

The «Monomakh» spring barley variety, developed by scientists at the V.V. Dokuchaev Kharkiv National Agrarian University, is designed to deliver predictable results under intensive farming conditions. The main advantage of this variety is its high level of genetic resistance to the most common pathogens, including rust, which is critical for maintaining productivity potential during the late stages of vegetation.

Key Advantages

• Phytosanitary Reliability: «Monomakh» demonstrates a pronounced immunity to brown and stem rust. This allows farmers to reduce costs on fungicide treatments without fearing a sharp drop in yield due to the infection background.
• Adaptability: The variety belongs to the spring type, making it an optimal choice for farms practicing early sowing dates. The plant quickly forms a powerful root system, ensuring efficient moisture utilization during the first half of the growing season.
• Grain Quality: «Monomakh» is characterized by good grain test weight and uniformity, making it attractive both for feed purposes and for the needs of the brewing industry (provided agronomic standards are met).

This variety performs best on the fertile soils of the forest-steppe zone of Ukraine. It is forgiving of minor technological errors, though it shows maximum returns when optimal mineral nutrition is provided. «Monomakh» is a choice for those seeking a balance between the cost of seed material and crop protection against specific fungal diseases.
