Barley variety Iner is a strawless spring type, developed to provide energy feedstock for feed production. The variety was developed over 17 years at the Institute of Plant Physiology named after V.Ya. Yuryev, NAAN, using intraspecific hybridization. Sources of strawlessness included varieties from Kazakhstan, France, and Syria, but the most effective was the variety Granal. During selection trials, phenological observations and resistance to lodging were conducted, and results were processed using dispersion analysis, which enabled the introduction of five new strawless barley varieties of the Inerme type.
The Iner variety is characterized by high disease resistance, reducing the need for intensive fungicide applications. To protect crops from complex pests and diseases, seed treatment with modern combined insecticide-fungicide preparations is recommended, ensuring reliable protection against scab, root rots, septoria, spot diseases, and other pathogens. Additionally, to prevent the spread of infections, it is important to maintain spatial isolation between planting areas and to use several varieties with different genetic resistances, which slows down pathogen development and extends the useful life of the varieties.

It has high yield potential and is suitable for various purposes: food, grain-feed, and technical uses, including brewing industry. Due to its qualities, the Iner variety is a valuable component in agricultural production, ensuring a stable and high-quality grain harvest.
