Barley Pegasus

German breeding for high yields

Spring barley "Pegas" from Deutsche Saatveredelung (DSV) is the result of years of German breeding focused on creating a resilient variety capable of consistent production under variable climatic conditions. This variety has carved out a solid niche among farmers focused on intensive cultivation technologies and high grain quality standards.

Agronomic resilience

The key feature of "Pegas" is its comprehensive genetic defense. Unlike many varieties that require intensive fungicide pressure, this barley demonstrates high natural resistance to common pathogens. The list of diseases that this variety effectively resists includes:

• Mycosphaerella leaf blotch;
• Plant rust;
• Cercospora;
• Rhynchosporium;
• Powdery mildew;
• Brown spot.

Such phytosanitary resistance allows agronomists to optimize crop protection costs and minimize chemical impact on the soil, which is particularly relevant in the context of sustainable agriculture.

Field potential

"Pegas" is valued for its uniform crop canopy and vigorous early growth. German genetics from DSV provide the variety with excellent tillering capacity, which, combined with a high thousand-grain weight, ensures expected yields even under moderate moisture conditions. The variety shows excellent adaptability to various soil types, while maximizing its potential in fertile plots with sufficient mineral nutrition.

For grain producers, this variety is a risk-reduction tool: yield stability is prioritized over chasing peak performance in experimental trials. It is this balance between disease resistance and yield that makes "Pegas" barley a reliable solution for farms of all sizes aiming for predictable results at the end of the season.
