Marina

Marina is a winter barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) variety belonging to the two-row type, characterized by medium maturity and multi-row structure. It is intended for grain and feed use and is included in the State Register of Selection Achievements for the North Caucasus region, with recommendations for cultivation in Rostov Oblast and Stavropol Krai. The variety exhibits high resistance to lodging and has a 1000-grain weight ranging from 38 to 49 grams. Average yields in the specified regions reach 61.6 centners per hectare. Regarding diseases, the variety shows low susceptibility to rust and powdery mildew, moderate susceptibility to helminthosporiosis, and high susceptibility to downy mildew. Additionally, barley is widely used in the food industry and brewing. Roasted barley, with its distinctive aroma featuring notes of coffee and dark chocolate, is used to produce dark beer varieties, especially black and chocolate beers. Unlike malted barley, roasted barley does not contain excessive malt sweetness, imparting a unique flavor profile and complexity to beverages. Also, barley's airy kernels are used in the production of confectionery, breakfast cereals, muesli, cereals, snacks, and animal feed. The production technology involves steam treatment of the grain without the use of fats and oils, ensuring high-quality raw material and preserving the product's beneficial properties. Thus, the Marina variety represents a versatile barley variety in demand both in agriculture and in the food and brewing industries.
