Selenia Star

Selenia Star — a medium-late, six-row winter barley variety intended for cultivation in steppe regions of Ukraine and southern areas of the country. This variety is distinguished by high adaptability to various climatic conditions, including dry periods, ensuring stable yields ranging from 75 to 111 centners per hectare under favorable conditions. The plant features a good bushy type, especially when sown late in autumn or early spring, with a height of 100–110 cm and a medium-length, six-row ear measuring 8–10 cm, which is strong and awn-bearing. The grain is large, elongated, yellow in color, with a 1000-grain weight varying from 37 to 47.6 grams depending on growing conditions. The variety exhibits high resistance to frost and cold, confirmed by a winter hardiness rating of 5–6 points. Resistance to lodging is also high — 6–7 points — helping preserve yield under adverse weather conditions. Regarding diseases, Selenia Star has moderate resistance to powdery mildew and rust, with ratings of 4–5 points, but it is susceptible to helminthosporium, requiring careful monitoring and protective measures. Successful cultivation requires standard agronomic practices appropriate for the growing region. Seed treatment and fertilizer application are mandatory. The recommended seeding rate is 180–250 kg per hectare. Due to its characteristics and adaptability, Selenia Star is suitable for cultivation in all climatic zones, ensuring high-quality grain and stable yields even under challenging conditions.
