A Selection Breakthrough from Belgorod SAU

The «Blagodar» spring barley variety represents the culmination of extensive breeding efforts by specialists at the Federal State Budgetary Educational Institution of Higher Education (FSBEI HE) Belgorod SAU. The breeding team, led by S. I. Smurov, S. N. Ermolaev, and S. N. Zyuba, focused on developing a variety that combines high yields with superior grain quality, specifically adapted to Russian agricultural conditions.

Performance and Yield Potential

The core strength of the «Blagodar» variety lies in its significant grain weight variability, with 1,000-kernel weight ranging from 40 to 52 grams depending on cultivation conditions. This plasticity enables the crop to maximize soil potential effectively. Coupled with a dry matter nitrogen content of 11–12%, «Blagodar» offers well-balanced parameters suitable for both livestock feed and processing industries.
