Description
The Cosmos spring barley variety is a medium-maturing six-row barley with a six-rowed ear 9-10 cm long and a loose structure. Plants are medium height, 70-90 cm, with straw-yellow coloration and long, elastic awns 14-18 cm long, which are easily removed during threshing. Grain is large, light yellow, elongated-oval in shape, and 1000-grain weight ranges from 45-55 g. The variety's vegetative period is 90-105 days, classifying it as medium-maturing.
Cosmos is characterized by high resistance to various unfavorable factors. It is resistant to lodging with low ear breakage, reducing harvest losses during delayed harvesting. The variety shows high drought resistance and resistance to powdery mildew, dwarf rust, and net blotch, ensuring harvest stability. Additionally, it can successfully develop on poor and acidic soils with pH below 6 without root system suppression and is resistant to soil acidification.
Cosmos has weak photoperiodic sensitivity, allowing cultivation in various climatic zones. It demonstrates high productivity with a potential yield of 65-75 centners per hectare, and yield can increase by 5-10 centners per hectare with ammonium nitrate fertilization at a dose of 40 kg of active substance per hectare. To prevent lodging on super-high agronomic backgrounds, retardant application during the beginning of awn emergence is recommended. Due to its characteristics and adaptability, Cosmos variety is recommended for cultivation in various regions, including the Stavropol Krai.
