Description LIDA
The Lida spring barley variety is a medium-maturing and medium-height barley created through intraspecific hybridization and selection. Its vegetative period lasts 72-88 days, ripening 3-5 days earlier than the Chelyabinsk 99 variety and 1-3 days earlier than standard varieties Natali and Sasha. The plant features a semi-erect bush, a pyramidal loose spike with long awned awns, and strong anthocyanin pigmentation. The mass of 1000 grains varies from 42 to 55 grams; the grain is large and high-yielding, with up to 65% output of barley flakes. Protein content in the grain ranges from 10.4% to 14.7%, making the variety valuable in terms of quality. Lida is recommended for cultivation in the Western, Central, and Eastern steppe zones of the Orenburg region and is included in the State Register for the Ural and Western Siberia regions. Average yield in the Ural region reaches 24.5 centners per hectare, with a maximum yield of 50.6 centners per hectare recorded in the Kurgan region. The variety is drought-resistant at the level of standard varieties, resistant to sprouting on the root, lodging, and grain shattering, and moderately resistant to stem rust and damage from the Hessian fly. However, Lida shows strong susceptibility to helminthosporiosis, root rots, and loose smut, while being weakly affected by loose and solid smut. The spike and leaves exhibit characteristic anthocyanin pigmentation and a waxy bloom, which is a distinctive morphological feature of the variety. Thanks to its agronomic characteristics and quality indicators, the Lida variety is a promising choice for cultivation in steppe zones of the Ural region.
