When it comes to spring barley, French breeding programs have always set a high bar. Field observations and performance

• Establishment and growth. The variety displays vigorous tillering, which is essential for regions with a tight growing season. Emergence is uniform, ensuring that crop development is consistent across the entire field, which significantly simplifies harvest settings.
• Stress tolerance. During a fluctuating spring, «Buzzer» shows good resilience to temperature swings. However, it is an intensive variety. Skipping fungicide applications can quickly lead to leaf spots and reduced yield potential. Maintaining a standard, high-quality protection plan is key.
• Harvesting. The stalks are robust, and lodging resistance is excellent. This makes the job for the combine operator much easier—the header load is consistent, and the separation process within the combine is efficient, minimizing losses. The grain threshes cleanly, reducing the risk of mechanical damage if the drum speed is calibrated correctly.

Management and economic impact

The main advantage of «Buzzer» is its flexibility. It doesn't penalize you for minor seeding rate errors, provided the seedbed was prepared thoroughly. For farms aiming for high-quality malting or feed barley, this variety is a solid investment. It is nitrogen-hungry, but it pays back that investment with a high thousand-grain weight. It requires no specialized, exotic machinery or techniques, making it a comfortable and manageable choice for any experienced farm manager.
