Barley KWS Wallace

The KWS Wallace winter barley, developed by the German breeding powerhouse KWS, represents an agronomic balance between high yield potential and strong disease resistance. Designed for farmers who prioritize consistency, this six-row variety optimizes field management through its robust health profile and reliable morphological traits.

Yield Potential and Plant Architecture

As a six-row variety, KWS Wallace is engineered to maximize grain yield per hectare. By increasing the number of grains per spike compared to two-row alternatives, the plant capitalizes on favorable growing conditions to deliver high output. Standing at 100-110 cm, the plants balance biomass production with excellent lodging resistance, ensuring that the heavy heads remain upright until the harvest, which simplifies field operations.

Disease Resistance Profile

A primary technical advantage of KWS Wallace is its genetic resistance to major fungal pathogens, which significantly reduces the need for frequent fungicide applications. The variety demonstrates sustained resistance against:

• Helminthosporium: Prevents early-stage leaf necrosis.
• Rhynchosporium: Reduces risk in humid conditions.
• Powdery Mildew: Limits infection spread in dense canopy conditions.
• Dwarf Leaf Rust: Preserves active photosynthetic leaf area during critical grain-filling stages.

Developmental Timeline

With a vegetation period of 90-100 days from the start of spring growth, KWS Wallace is a predictable tool in crop rotation planning. This developmental window allows the crop to effectively utilize soil moisture reserves accumulated during the winter. By accelerating through physiological stages, the plant completes grain filling before the onset of extreme summer heat, ensuring high grain quality and consistent test weight.
