Description Gladys
Gladys barley — a medium-late maturing, bright barley variety recommended for cultivation in various climatic zones of Ukraine, including the Polissia, Forest-Steppe, and Steppe. It has a high yield potential, reaching approximately 9.9 tons per hectare, and is characterized by large kernels with a 1000-kernel weight of about 48 grams. The variety has a two-row ear type and a recommended seeding rate of 180–220 kg per hectare. Gladys was registered in 2010 and is widely used in agronomy due to its stable performance. One of its key features is high resistance to various diseases, including black and white rust, smut, rust, rhiophytophthora, as well as moderate resistance to powdery mildew. Additionally, the variety demonstrates high drought and lodging resistance, ensuring reliable and stable yields under various weather conditions. Gladys also exhibits good tillering and strong stems, which contribute to increased overall productivity. Gladys barley is especially valued for its high-quality malt, making it ideal for brewing production. The protein content in the grain ranges from 10.5–11.5%, meeting the requirements for producing high-quality malt. Due to its agronomic and technological characteristics, this variety is an optimal choice for farmers focused on producing high-yield, disease-resistant brewing barley.
