Antirrhinum RUBY STAR

Dwarf architecture for vibrant landscape accents

«Rubinovaya Zvezda» (Ruby Star) stands out among common tall snapdragons due to its exceptional compactness. Developed by Russian breeders Olga Hanbabaeva and Evgeny Mamonov, this antirrhinum variety perfectly fits the modern landscape design trend, favoring neat, self-contained plant forms.

Key varietal features

• Growth habit: The dwarf growth form allows for use in the foreground of flower beds, border plantings, and containers.
• Color aesthetics: A deep, saturated red hue makes the inflorescences pop against mixed vegetation, creating a dense, intense «ruby» visual effect.
• Flowering type: The bush-type branching ensures abundant flower stalk development, making the plant look significantly more voluminous compared to single-stemmed alternatives.

Practical application

Unlike many dwarf varieties, «Rubinovaya Zvezda» demonstrates surprising versatility. Despite its miniature stature, the density of the inflorescences allows them to be used in cut flower arrangements for miniature interior displays or floral accessories. For professional growers, this variety is prized for its developmental predictability and lodging resistance, which is critical when maintaining urban floral arrangements.

The plant’s main strength is its decorative reliability; it adapts well to various conditions and requires minimal pruning. Its primary limitation is the restricted length of the flower stalk, which makes it unsuitable for tall, traditional bouquets. However, this is fully compensated by its high ornamental value within the garden bed itself.
