Anemone Oksana

Practical insights on growing Anemone «Oksana»

The «Oksana» variety, developed by the Federal Research Center «Subtropical Scientific Center of the RAS», is a perennial plant that demands a disciplined approach to maintenance to maximize its 60–75 day blooming window. From a gardener’s perspective, this is a mid-level maintenance plant that performs reliably when standard agricultural protocols are observed.

Operational use and placement

The core utility of «Oksana» lies in its versatility. With flower diameters of 5–7 cm, it excels in front-border placement, rock gardens, and container settings. When used in containers, maintaining an effective drainage layer is non-negotiable; like most anemones, this plant is sensitive to waterlogging, which can compromise the root system in restricted soil volumes.

Maintenance requirements

• Visual characteristics: The variety offers a diverse palette of colors, including white, pink, blue, and red, facilitating varied compositional designs in garden beds.
• Routine care: During the active growth phase, consistent but moderate watering is essential. Soil mulching helps maintain a stable microclimate, reducing the need for frequent soil aeration.
• Seasonal preparation: As a perennial, «Oksana» requires winter protection, particularly in climates with fluctuating temperatures or minimal snow cover. Protecting the root zone is crucial for ensuring successful regrowth the following season.

The variety does not require heavy use of growth regulators, though it responds well to phosphorus-potassium fertilizers during the bud development stage. By maintaining the correct light levels and substrate aeration, the plant retains its ornamental value throughout the entire cycle with minimal intervention.
