Actinidia SMOOTH

Stable Tropical Yields in Your Garden

The Actinidia 'Gladkaya' (Smooth) variety is a result of meticulous breeding by the Federal Research Center for Horticulture (authors E.I. Kolbasina and N.V. Kozak). It shifts the paradigm of growing exotic vines in temperate climates, offering superior adaptability. Unlike many large-fruited varieties that require labor-intensive protection, this cultivar delivers reliable production of 12–16 kg per mature plant.

Flavor Profile and Culinary Appeal

The hallmark of 'Gladkaya' is its distinctive pineapple aroma coupled with a balanced sweet-and-tart flavor. The skin is smooth and glabrous, making the fruit perfect for fresh consumption without peeling or processing. With a fruit weight of 12–18 grams, the variety balances medium size with high vitamin concentration and excellent shelf life post-harvest.

Agrotechnical Considerations

Prospective growers should note that 'Gladkaya' is a dioecious species. The presence of a male pollinator (Actinidia arguta) is mandatory for successful fruit setting, which is a standard requirement for this species. Given the vigorous growth habit of the vine, a sturdy trellis system is essential. Key advantages include:

• High marketability and excellent post-harvest transportability.
• High resistance to common fungal infections.
• Consistent yield levels that remain stable despite minor climatic fluctuations.

This variety is an optimal choice for both hobbyist gardeners and small-scale farms focused on producing organic, boutique exotic fruits with reliable commercial performance.
