Actinidia is a perennial liana-like plant of the actinidiaceae family, distinguished by its bright striped leaves and delicate aromatic flowers. The fruits resemble mini-kiwis: oval-shaped, green, weighing about 15 grams, with a soft texture and a sweet-sour taste. They are rich in vitamin C and trace elements, aid digestion, strengthen immunity, and help lower blood pressure.
The plant grows on supports, reaching lengths of over 9 meters, and can bear fruit for over three decades. Young shoots are covered with reddish-brown hairs, while the leaves are large, oval, up to 17–25 cm in diameter, with a dark green color and velvety texture. Flowering occurs from early May to June; cup-shaped cream-colored flowers 2.5–5 cm in diameter emit a delicate aroma.
Actinidia is perfect for vertical greening: pergolas, verandas, terraces, walls, and fences. It withstands sunny and warm locations well, as well as slight shade; winter colds down to -25 °C do not require shelter. Thanks to its decorative appearance and edible fruits, the plant is valued both for garden and culinary purposes.
