Operation and Cultural Practices

Managing the 'Rima' actinidia variety requires a strategic approach to plant placement. As a dioecious culture, the primary operational challenge is ensuring successful pollination. You must plant male pollinator vines alongside the female plants; without this, your efforts in irrigation and fertilization will not lead to fruit production. A ratio of one male to 5–8 female plants is the standard requirement for efficient cultivation.

Harvesting and Canopy Management

The fruit weighs 12–18 grams and is prized for its sweet, dessert-like flavor. To maintain these quality standards, robust trellis support is mandatory. 'Rima' is a vigorous vine that grows rapidly; if left unpruned, it becomes a dense, unmanageable thicket. A fan-shaped or cordon training system is recommended to keep the vines organized, allowing for easy access during the harvest season and ensuring proper airflow through the canopy.

Maintenance and Soil Care

Developed at the M.M. Gryshko National Botanical Garden of the NAS of Ukraine, this variety is well-adapted to local climate fluctuations. Maintenance is straightforward but specific: the root system is shallow, making mechanical weeding or hoeing extremely risky. To preserve root health and soil moisture, utilize organic mulching instead of tilling. This strategy minimizes plant stress and maintains optimal conditions for the vine to thrive throughout the growing season.
