Commander – a male variety of Actinidia kolomikta, mainly intended as a pollinator for female forms. It is a medium-sized vine with long, climbing shoots colored brown with a slight gloss.
Commander's leaves are of medium size, green and mottled, with a characteristic white-pinkish spot at the tips. The leaf base is heart-shaped, the margin is finely serrated, and the surface is smooth and soft. The flowers are small, male with white petals, about 1.5 cm in diameter; they appear singly or in groups of two to three.
The plant does not bear fruit (sterile), but it excellently performs the role of a pollinator for all female varieties of Actinidia. Commander is frost-resistant, resistant to diseases and pests, and tolerates conditions from full sun to partial shade. Hardiness corresponds to zone 5, making it suitable for cultivation in a temperate climate.
