Actinidia DELICIOUS

A Breeding Breakthrough in Actinidia Culture

The 'Preleznaya' cultivar, developed by experts at the Federal Research Center for Horticulture, Ella Kolbasina and Natalya Kozak, addresses the need for a balance between ornamental garden value and reliable yields. Unlike many introduced hybrids, this cultivar is adapted to regional climatic conditions, making it predictable in terms of cultivation and care.

Key Features and Cultivation

• Dioecious Nature: This is crucial for planning your planting. 'Preleznaya' requires a male pollinator nearby; otherwise, fruit set will not occur. Plan your garden layout in advance.
• Fruit Parameters: An average weight of 12–18 g is a solid standard for Actinidia arguta. The fruits possess a distinct flavor profile that sets them apart from wild-growing forms.
• Productivity: A yield of 5–8 kg per bush is highly commendable for Actinidia. The cultivar allows for consistent results when basic requirements for trellising and pruning are met.

Who is this cultivar for?

'Preleznaya' is a choice for those ready to dedicate time to training the vine. This is not a "lazy" crop: it requires a sturdy trellis and regular shoot management. If you are prepared to provide vertical support, the plant will reward you with high berry density per linear meter of vine. The hybrid's strength lies in its high resistance to local pathogens, while its weakness is the critical reliance on the presence of male plants and the quality of pollination.
