Description

Purple Garden Actinidia – an ornamental-culinary shrub with bright purple berries that resemble miniature kiwis. The plant is a perennial vine up to 8–10 m tall and requires support for proper growth. The leaves have an elongated elliptical shape, are glossy dark green, and the berries are reddish-purple, oval with smooth skin and soft flesh, possessing a sweet, aromatic taste.

Fruiting begins as early as the 3rd–4th year after planting. The berries ripen in late September–early October, retain their shape on the bush and do not fall off. The average fruit weight is from 12 to 18 g, and the yield can reach 10–25 kg per bush with proper care. A male pollinator is needed for fruiting: one male plant is enough for 3–4 females.

For successful cultivation, actinidia requires fertile, slightly acidic soil (pH 5.5–6.5), moderately moist and drained. The plant prefers a sunny location or partial shade, protected from strong winds. Regular watering without over-wetting, fertilizing in spring and during fruiting (potassium humates) contribute to good growth and yield. Frost resistance reaches –25 °C, which allows growing the plant even in colder climatic conditions.

Purple Garden Actinidia not only delights the eye with its bright berries but is also a valuable source of vitamin C (10 times higher than in lemons). Thanks to this, it is widely used in cooking for making jams, jellies, and desserts, as well as as a decorative element in gardens and orchards.
