This variety is characterized by high sugar content, reaching up to 19%, and high yield—under proper agronomic techniques, up to 85 tons of quality product can be harvested per hectare. The root has a cylinder-conical shape, average weight is about 700 grams, and its surface is smooth, which facilitates harvesting and reduces soil contamination. The vegetative period lasts up to 120 days, corresponding to medium maturity dates. The plant possesses a powerful taproot system penetrating to a depth of 2-2.5 meters, ensuring good nutrition and drought resistance. Leaves are semi-spreading with an entire, moderately corrugated blade. The variety is resistant to major sugar beet diseases such as cercosporosis, powdery mildew, and root rot, and is well adapted to various climatic conditions, including heat and cold. This makes it universal for cultivation in all beet-growing regions. Sugar beet 286-1/96 has universal application: it is used for sugar and molasses production, as well as in the food industry for preparing borscht and kvass. Additionally, all parts of the plant are suitable for fodder purposes, making the crop waste-free. Sowing is recommended in April at a depth of 2-3 cm with a row spacing of 20x50 cm, and harvesting—from July to September. The roots are immersed in the soil by 90%, which promotes their preservation and quality during collection.
