Growing Mormodes successfully requires mimicking their natural habitat, which involves a warm, humid growing season followed by a cool, dry period of dormancy. During dormancy, most species drop their leaves entirely.

The substrate must be highly porous to ensure rapid drainage. A mix of fine to medium-grade fir bark, perlite, and charcoal is typically ideal, as it prevents the roots from sitting in stagnant water.
