Dracocephalum moldavica is an annual herbaceous plant growing from 30 to 80 cm tall, which attracts attention with its spike-like inflorescences in white, bluish, or violet shades. The flowers resemble snake heads, which gave the plant its name. The leaves are dark green, the stem is branched, and the seeds are slightly elongated triangular seeds of brownish-brown color, about 3 mm long.
The 'EGOIST' variety is distinguished by high yield and enhanced aroma during drying, making it popular both in perfumery and cuisine. The seeds retain viability for up to 5–8 years, so they can be stored for a long time. For planting, it is best to choose well-lit areas; the optimal distance between rows is 55–65 cm, and the seed sowing depth is 2–3 cm.
Plant care is simple: removing weeds and loosening the soil ensure healthy growth. The plant is not demanding regarding moisture, but two or three abundant waterings during a dry summer increase yield and the quality of the herb. Dracocephalum moldavica withstands short-term light frosts, remaining cold-hardy. Harvesting is done at the beginning of flowering when the buds are still unopened; the entire above-ground part of the plant is cut and dried for further use.
