The 'Bagryana' garden strawberry variety was developed at the Institute of Horticulture of the Ukrainian Academy of Agricultural Sciences by crossing the varieties 'Desna' and 'Roksana'. This early-ripening variety is recommended for commercial cultivation in all regions and features robust, semi-spreading bushes with large dark green leaves and thick flower stems positioned at the same level or below the leaves. The plant's runners are thick and pale-red, and the inflorescences are multi-flowered, contributing to high yields.
The 'Bagryana' variety's berries are large, averaging 12–13 grams, but can reach 45–50 grams. They have a blunt-conical shape, sometimes twin and aligned, with a characteristic stem. The skin is dark-red and shiny, while the flesh is red, tender, firm, and juicy. The fruit has a sweet-sour flavor with a pleasant aroma, making it ideal for dessert use. The pedicels detach easily, facilitating harvesting. The berries exhibit good transportability and high commercial quality.
The 'Bagryana' variety demonstrates resistance to powdery mildew, leaf spot, and strawberry mite, as well as good cold and drought tolerance, allowing cultivation in various climatic conditions. The plant is low-maintenance, adapts quickly, and steadily produces high yields of sweet berries starting from mid-to-late May. Due to these qualities, 'Bagryana' is a reliable choice for gardeners and farmers aiming to obtain an early and high-quality strawberry harvest.
