Description Simon
SIMON is a spring barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) variety intended for grain and fodder use. It belongs to medium-early varieties and is recommended for cultivation in the Northern forest-steppe of the foothills of the Kemerovo Region, and has been included in the State Register for the Western Siberian region. The plants of the variety have short or medium height, a semi-erect bush, and medium-high lodging resistance. The ear is cylindrical, loose, with long awned awns that have strong anthocyanin coloring at the tips. The sheaths of the lower leaves are covered with a strong waxy bloom, and the flag leaf auricles are colored medium-strong anthocyanin. The variety is characterized by medium drought resistance and medium yield in the region of about 24.9 c/ha, with the maximum yield reaching 51.7 c/ha. The mass of 1000 grains varies from 40 to 48 grams, the grain is large, with a non-hairy abdominal groove and a sheathing lodicule. The protein content in the grain is in the range of 9.4 to 17.6%, which makes it valuable for fodder purposes. The variety is moderately resistant to powdery and solid bunt, but susceptible to stem, brown, and dwarf rusts, and is highly susceptible to helminthosporiosis and powdery mildew. Barley SIMON is widely used in agriculture as a fodder crop, providing quality grain for feed production. Thanks to its agronomic characteristics and adaptation to the conditions of Western Siberia, this variety is a reliable choice for farmers seeking a stable yield under moderate drought and diverse phytopathological loads.
