Palanka

The Palanka apple variety is a summer Ukrainian cultivar, distinguished by high yield and excellent fruit flavor. Apples ripen at the end of July, remaining fresh for 2-3 weeks. Medium to large-sized fruits, weighing 140–165 grams, have a flattened-round shape with slight ribbing. Their coloration features a greenish-yellow background with a blurred purplish-red blush and a bluish bloom. The flesh is yellow-cream-colored, very firm and juicy, with a tart-sweet taste until full ripeness and a sweet flavor upon reaching consumer maturity. The tree forms a compact crown and begins fruiting on medium-height rootstocks as early as the 3rd–4th year after planting. The variety exhibits satisfactory cold resistance up to -33°C, making it suitable for cultivation in the middle belt. Palanka apple demonstrates high disease resistance, particularly moderate resistance to powdery mildew and immunity to five races of apple scab due to the Rvi6 (Vf) gene. This significantly simplifies plant care and reduces the need for frequent protective treatments. Successful cultivation requires proper care, including regular watering, crown thinning, and timely harvest. The high transportability of the fruits makes Palanka apples suitable for both personal consumption and market sales. Due to the combination of excellent flavor, resistance to adverse conditions, and high yield, this variety is a popular choice among gardeners and agricultural producers.
