Chrysolite is a mid-maturing winter durum wheat variety developed by FGBNU «ANC «Donской» and intended for cultivation in the North Caucasus region, as well as in the Central Black Earth and Lower Volga zones. The variety was created to replace one of the popular Don varieties and is distinguished by high productivity and resistance to lodging and diseases, in particular septoria. The potential grain productivity of Chrysolite exceeds 14 tons per hectare, while the average yield in a cover crop rotation is about 9.33 t/ha.
The grain quality of the variety meets the GOST requirements for durum wheat: the grain is characterized by high vitreousness (89%), thousand-kernel weight of 791 g/l, protein content of 14.4%, and gluten of II quality group (28.5%). Special attention is deserved by the high carotenoid content (636 mcg/%), which gives pasta products an attractive color and good pasta-cereal qualities. Falling number is 382 seconds, indicating high gluten quality and technological properties of the grain.
The Chrysolite variety is also distinguished by high earliness of the spike and good agrofitocenotic characteristics. In breeding research conducted in the southern zone of Rostov region, the variety showed high indicators for spike length, grain mass per spike, number of grains per spike, and mass of 1000 grains. These characteristics make Chrysolite promising for further use in breeding and seed production of winter durum wheat.
