Description CHELYAB STEPNA
Chelyab Stepna is a variety of soft spring wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) with medium-early and early-maturing characteristics depending on the growing region. The vegetative period ranges from 73 to 87 days, allowing the variety to mature simultaneously with other popular varieties, such as Novosibirsk 15. The plant is of medium height with a semi-erect bush and a pyramid-shaped spike 8–10 cm long. The grain is semi-elongated, medium-sized, with a 1000-grain mass ranging from 32 to 42 grams, indicating good grain size and quality. The erythrospermum type is characterized by good baking qualities corresponding to the good filler level. The variety is drought-resistant at the standard level, making it suitable for cultivation in various climatic conditions, including the Ural region and the Kulundka Steppe of the Altai Territory. The yield of Chelyab Stepna in the Ural region averages 14.9 centners per hectare, while in the West Siberian region it reaches up to 18.8 centners per hectare, with maximum yield indicators up to 41.8 centners per hectare. The plant has medium resistance to lodging, which helps preserve the crop and facilitates harvesting. At the same time, the variety is moderately susceptible to brown rust and hard head smut, but is resistant to powdery mildew, root rots, and dusty head smut, which increases its reliability in terms of agronomy. Chelyab Stepna is the result of many years of breeding work, including cooperation with the Chelyabinsk Agricultural Research Institute and experimental plots such as the Troitskoye Agricultural Enterprise. This variety is recommended for cultivation in the Chelyabinsk Region and other regions with similar climatic conditions. Thanks to its adaptive properties and stable yield, Chelyab Stepna is of interest to farmers seeking to obtain a high-quality and reliable yield of soft spring wheat under arid climatic conditions.
