SARATOVSKAYA 74 is a soft spring wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) variety distinguished by medium maturity and medium plant height. The vegetative period lasts 75-92 days, with maturation 1-2 days earlier than the Omskaya 35 variety. The plant has medium resistance to lodging, and the heads are awnless, white with non-pubescent glumes. The grain is white, ovoid, slightly elongated with a narrow shallow groove and glassy texture. The weight of 1000 grains ranges from 27 to 40 grams. The variety belongs to the albidum type and is characterized by excellent baking qualities, making it valuable wheat for the baking industry.
SARATOVSKAYA 74 exhibits high drought resistance, exceeding the standard by 1 point in this indicator. The variety is virtually resistant to powdery bunt and tolerant to powdery mildew, while susceptibility to brown rust and pests is at the level of the Saratovskaya 55 variety. The head is cylindrical, medium length (7-10 cm) and density, with characteristic awn-like formations on the glumes that elongate towards the head tip. Floral glumes hold the grain well, contributing to stable variety productivity over years.
The variety was created at the Southern-Eastern Agricultural Research Institute (NIISKh South-East) and recommended for cultivation in the Lower Volga and Ural regions, as well as in the Republic of Bashkortostan. Thanks to the combination of high drought resistance and potential productivity, SARATOVSKAYA 74 ensures stable and high yields, allowing for additional income with equal grain technological properties compared to the standard. The variety's rights holder is the Southern-Eastern Agricultural Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Agricultural Sciences (FANZ South-East).
