CAROLINA 5 is a variety of soft winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) created by multiple individual selection from a hybrid population obtained by crossing the varieties Krasnodar 99 and Selyanka Odesskaya. The plants are of medium height, ranging from 81 to 103 cm, with a pyramidal white spike of medium length. The mass of 1000 grains ranges from 36 to 44 grams, indicating good grain quality. The average yield of the variety reaches 55.7 centners per hectare, making it attractive for agricultural production.
The variety is characterized by a medium-early ripening period, medium winter hardiness, and high drought tolerance, which allows for successful cultivation in the Eastern zone of the Stavropol Territory and the North Caucasus region. CAROLINA 5 exhibits resistance to shattering and grain germination on the root, which contributes to preserving the yield and reducing losses during harvesting. Additionally, the variety is moderately resistant to diseases such as brown rust, powdery mildew, fusarium head blight, and septoria, enhancing its reliability under various agro-climatic conditions.
Baking qualities of the variety are good: gluten content reaches 27.6%, and protein content is 14.5%, ensuring high-quality flour and bakery products. Due to the combination of high yield, resistance to adverse factors, and excellent technological grain characteristics, CAROLINA 5 is an effective choice for farmers focused on obtaining a stable and high-quality yield of soft winter wheat.
