Vigna Maiya

Working with Vigna "Maya"

The "Maya" variety from "RosNIISK «Rossorgo»" is a distinct crop that requires a specific approach to vertical gardening. As this is a climbing type, the first priority for any grower is installing reliable trellis systems. The vines are vigorous, and the pods reach impressive lengths of 60–100 cm, making support essential to prevent the crop from matting on the ground.

Operational Insights and Harvest Management

• Harvesting Dynamics: Due to the exceptional length of the pods, harvesting is relatively fast once you establish a rhythm. However, vigilance is required: if left on the vine too long, the pods lose their tenderness and quality for the fresh market.
• Versatility: One of the main advantages of "Maya" is its versatility. Whether your focus is the fresh market, canning, or commercial freezing, the texture remains stable and consistent, which is a major plus for post-harvest processing.
• Growth Requirements: The plant thrives in warm conditions. It responds best when planted in well-warmed soil, allowing it to quickly develop the vegetative mass needed to support heavy, long-pod sets.

For those managing the crop, maintaining adequate moisture and nutrition is the secret to success. When managed properly, the plants are heavily loaded with pods, making hand-harvesting highly efficient. Proper trellis management eliminates issues with rot or damage, ensuring the majority of your yield meets premium grade standards.
