Vigna is an annual legume crop belonging to the Fabaceae family, known for its long, thin pods that can reach up to 1 meter in length. The plant grows to a height of 2–3 m when supported, and the pods have a light-green color containing small beans the size of wheat grains. Vigna is characterized by high yield and rapid growth – the maturation period is 60–80 days after sowing.

The crop is grown in greenhouses or in open fields in warm climates. Well-lit, fertile, and drained soil is required; the temperature during growth must exceed +15 °C. Irrigation should be conducted regularly but without water stagnation to avoid root rot.

Vigna seeds are used for fresh consumption, canning, and freezing. They have various sorts with different bean colors – from white to milky and black. Using vigne allows preparing a tasty dish with fresh or boiled pods, as well as adding it to soups and salads.
